Larimer County Natural Resources Visual Artist of the Year – 2014

Jeanne Mackenzie, Larimer County Natura Resources Visual Artist for 2014, unveiled “River Bluffs Sunrise” inspired by River Bluffs Open Space, at a reception on January 16th. Jeanne donated the piece to the County for public display. The goal of the Larimer County Visual Artist Program is to showcase protected parks and open spaces within the County thru artistic expression from professional artists.

In Jeanne’s words, “I am so honored to have been chosen as the 2014 Visual Artist for Larimer County Natural Resources. As a 30 year resident of Colorado I have always been drawn to the open spaces and relish in the natural beauty we have here in Northern Colorado. As a landscape artist, working in oils, I try to capture the essence of the scene, not just an exact rendition of sky, trees and water. To me the scene is about a sense of place and the mood it evokes. The painting I created is of River Bluffs Open Space. I visited the area early one morning and loved the warm glow of the early sunrise. I wanted to capture how the sun played off of the slow moving water as it made its way eastward out to the plains. I look forward to having the painting join a group of other fine artist’s work.”

An internationally recognized painter, Jeanne has been a professional artist for 15 years. Her work has been published in such magazines as International Artist Magazine and American Art Magazine. Jeanne has her studio and home in LaPorte, and shows her work in numerous galleries across the U.S. and jurored shows.
