Senior Center Expansion Achieves LEED Gold Certification

The recently completed Fort Collins Senior Center Expansion project has achieved LEED Gold Certification by the US Green Building Council (USGBC). City staff presented the many sustainability items incorporated into the project on May 12 at the Senior Center, and was held in the new auditorium.

On July 10, 2014 the City of Fort Collins Recreation Department completed the Senior Center’s $6.8 million, 18,000 square foot expansion. The popular center now features an expanded weight/cardio room, fitness room, health and wellness wing, auditorium, and additional community rooms. To achieve LEED Gold Certification the expansion project included numerous sustainable items. Some key sustainability items included in the expansion are:

• Low emission vehicle parking
• Carpool and vanpool parking
• Light pollution reduction
• Low flow fixtures reduce water usage
• Energy saving lighting controls
• Electric charging stations
