Vehicle Licensing Kiosk Pilot Program

Larimer County citizens now have the ability to renew their vehicle registrations at a convenient, easy to use, self-service kiosk, providing yet another reason you never have to wait in line in Larimer County Vehicle Licensing offices!

Larimer has entered into a pilot program through the State of Colorado for the use of kiosk technology in renewing vehicle registrations. The kiosk operates very similar to those you find in post office lobbies that dispense postage and/or stamps. Instead, it dispenses new stickers and updated registration forms through interactive touch-screen technology, thus eliminating the need to wait in line for a technician.

Using the kiosk is simple. Citizens can either scan the barcode located on the renewal postcard, or type their license plate number on the touch screen; taxes and fees are then paid via check, credit or debit card. After payment has been processed, a printed receipt is dispensed along with registration and license plate stickers. If there are any changes in your auto insurance, or if your vehicle requires an emissions test, it is recommend that you wait at least 4 business days after taking care of those details prior to utilizing the kiosk.

The kiosks are funded by a $3 per transaction fee paid by the user for each registration renewal performed at the kiosk. The vendor, Intellectual Technology, Inc., is responsible for operating and maintaining the units.

The advantage of using kiosk technology for renewals is twofold. For citizens, they provide another innovative convenience when renewing vehicle registration transactions. For the county, they improve operational efficiencies by reducing in-person transactions, allowing staff to focus on more challenging transactions and other required tasks.

During the pilot phase of this project, the kiosk is located in the lobby of our Fort Collins Vehicle Licensing office on the first floor of the Larimer County Courthouse at 200 West Oak St., Fort Collins for use during normal office hours. The launch date was August 7, and was celebrated with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

“We are excited to be part of this project, each innovation we’ve put into place – from the appointment feature to PhoneTag to this new kiosk – is an effort to improve convenience for our citizens. The great news is, these conveniences are also translating into efficiencies within our operations and better use of taxpayer funds,” said Larimer County Clerk and Recorder, Angela Myers.
