Scams, Scams, and More Scams

The scammers never sleep.  In the last few days the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office has received calls about various versions of scams.

1.  Someone supposedly from a local business calls a resident and the business’ real phone number appears in caller ID.  It really isn’t from the business it is a scammer using the name and number of a legit business.
2.  White pages calling – need to verify your information for the white pages.  – then I need to get $500, $600 or so payment for your listing.  Another scam.
3.  Google listing – another scam.

Scammers frequently get real names and businesses (including law enforcement names) and call to tell you of a warrant for you, or some other scare tactic to get money.  No law enforcement calls you for money or to alert you of a warrant.  These are all scammers.
Many of these are robo calls so I thought I would send out the links to two ways to reduce these robo calls – the first one is to get your home and mobile number listed on the Do Not Call Registry.  here is that link – and you can also file complaints on this website.  The FTC is doing a lot to stop these call centers.

National Do Not Call Registry

The National Do Not Call Registry gives you a choice about wether to receive telemarketing calls. You can register your home or mobile phone for free.

Another way is to sign up for the “nomorobo” calls – I have done this one as well and I get one ring at home and then it stops – that alerts me to a robo call and the system disconnects it before the second ring. I get several of these one ringers every day so I know it is working. Here is the link.

Stop robocalls and telemarketers with Nomorobo

Finally! No more annoying robocalls and telemarketers. Free on most major VoIP providers. Now available for iPhone.

Please keep letting me know when you get a scam call so we know which ones are active and can alert our community. Remember – just hang up on any scammer – you won’t hurt their feelings!

Have a great day!
