In September, the American Legacy Academy held its fifth annual Constitution Week event at the Severance High School Auditorium during the Constitution Week (September 17-23). Over 250 people attended the event! U.S. Constitution Week is observed annually during this week in honor of the original signing of the U.S. Constitution on September 17, 1787, during the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was ratified in 1788 and operationalized in 1789. As the world’s longest surviving written charter of government, the first three words, “We the People,” underscore the fact that the United States federal government was purposefully designed to ensure that it served its citizens – not the other way around.

Today, an increasing number of communities are organizing events to commemorate and celebrate one of the United States’ most important founding documents. As the framework for achieving the conditions necessary to preserve the vision of liberty described in the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution will always be “married” to the Declaration. One would not exist nor succeed without the other.
At this event, host Mary Zenzen introduced moderator Allen Thomas III, who gave an introduction and presented the National Anthem sung by the American Legacy Academy choir with an opening prayer by Reverend Josh Green with the Calvary Severance Church.
Jill Cullis of Constituting America presented the keynote address. Jil gave a riveting presentation on specific articles of our Constitution and what they meant. She gave a dynamic slide presentation and asked the audience multiple questions to test their knowledge on the principles of the Constitution.
Weld County Commissioner Lynette Peppler presented multiple trophies provided by Designs by Ricker and sponsored by the Veterans Plaza of Northern Colorado to student winners who wrote essays on what the Constitution means to the U.S. citizens! Overall, the audience engaged with the keynote speaker and thanked the students for their wonderful essays!
