Team USA wins the Gold Medal during the team competition with our top men’s skater Ilia Malinin who helped the team to victory displaying a total of five quad jumps and his extra backflip (that past Olympic skater and NBC Winter Olympic analyst Scott Hamilton used in his professional routines) in his almost perfect performance on the ice on Sunday at the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics. Team USA included Ilia Malinin, Amber Glenn, and the pairs team Ellie Kam & Danny O’Shea. See our previous article on pairs skaters Ellie Kam and Danny O’Shea!
The second Gold Medal winner was Women’s downhill Alpine skier Breezy Johnson. 30 year-old Breezy won two gold medals at the 2025 World Championships for downhill and team combined events! She has been skiing since age 19 and was on two Olympic teams in 2018 and this year! She became only the second American woman ever to win Olympic downhill gold, after Lindsey Vonn!
Sadly, former Olympic Gold Medalist, USA downhill Alpine skier, and team mate Lindsay Vonn had a disappointing day after she crashed on her downhill run and had to be taken to a local hospital with a broken leg! She suffered an ACL leg injury several weeks before the Olympics. Lindsay will be always known as a fierce competitor and very passionate on the skiing slopes even at age 41!
After Day 2 competition on Sunday, host country Italy won the most medals after day 2 as shown below:
