Mayor Mike Johnston today announced progress on Denver’s 2026 citywide goals and unveiled a new public dashboard where residents can track quarterly outcomes. Through the First three months of 2026 Denver is on track to fill three million square feet of downtown office and retail space, deliver catalytic developments like the Denver Summit stadium on-time, deliver thousands more units of affordable housing, further reduce street homelessness, and connect more young people to jobs and out-of-school programming.

“Our citywide goals are exactly that: the things Denverites tell us every day they want us to prioritize and deliver on,”said Mayor Mike Johnston. “That means putting kids in productive situations, tackling gun violence, and making the city a more affordable place to live for working families. I’m proud to share the progress we’ve made and I’m excited about the opportunities ahead.”
Shootings and violent gun crime remained down in the first quarter of 2026 when compared with the same time period in 2025, while firearm homicides were unchanged. As this report is quarterly, it does not account for the unusual spike in gun violence the city experienced in early April. Denver Police immediately addressed those circumstances by adding patrols, resources, and working with community groups to ensure de-escalation.
Citywide goals involve multiple city agencies and departments working together for the betterment of Denver. They are broken into six categories: Vibrant, Affordable, Safe, All In Mile High, Climate Resilient, and Child Friendly. In the first quarter of 2026, Denver:
Completed 549 moves to shelter among people experiencing homelessness and 604 moves to stable and permanent housing
Permitted more than 1,200 clean energy systems.
Secured commitments for 1.5 million square feet of downtown office and retail space alongside 14 retail openings and five downtown office deals.
Permitted 2,100 housing units
Launched a new LoDo-focused task force to address crime downtown; reduced violent gun crime in high-risk areas by 63 percent
Launched ayouth job board to easily connect young adults with prospective jobs and earn a bonus through the Mayor’s YouthWorks Initiative
The new citywide goals dashboard provides a more dynamic and detailed look at the city’s progress in addressing top priorities. The dashboard details strategies the city is using to effect change and will be updated quarterly.
