The Jesters Dinner Theatre 2017-18 Season

By Barbara Peterson

The Jesters Dinner Theatre, at 224 Main Street in Longmont, has selected its 2017-2018 season.

First production is Legally Blonde: The Musical (Oct 6 – Nov 26, Dec 31 – Feb 3, 2018) which tells the story of Elle Woods, a ditzy blonde who enrolls at Harvard Law School in an attempt to win back the boyfriend who dumped her. She learns more at Harvard than she bargained for, however, in this fun and empowering romp.

Scrooge, a musical version of A Christmas Carol with memorable songs and music by Leslie Bricusse, is a holiday favorite at the Jesters and runs for all of December. Scrooge’s “I Hate People” is his tour de force, as his duet with the Ghost of Christmas Present, “I Like Life.” And the haunting “Happiness” will have audiences sobbing in their seats.

Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber, who gave us Jesus Christ Superstar and Evita, got their start in 1968 with Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (Feb 8 – April 8). It’s a fast-moving show which presents the adventures of Joseph, sold into slavery in Egypt by his jealous brothers. It runs from February 9 to April 8.

The sun always comes out tomorrow for Annie (April 13 – July 31). This story of the spunky little red-headed orphan and her dog Sandy has delighted audiences for over 40 years. Set during the Depression, it’s feel-good story resonates today.

The movie, The Producers (1968), was Mel Brook’s very first and a great start to his illustrious comedic career. Broken down theatre impresario Max Bialystock and timid accountant Leo Bloom are The Producers ( July 6-September 30), who hope to make a fortune by producing a sure-fire Broadway failure. But how can they ensure the production doesn’t run for more than one night?
