Viva Theater presents “Dude It’s Boulder”

“It’s So Boulder”. Perhaps you have heard this phrase and wondered just what it meant.

Viva Theater’s production of “Dude It’s Boulder” shows, through story, song, and dance, the history of Boulder and all the idiosyncratic events that have defined Boulder.

“Dude, It’s Boulder” is an original theater piece written by Boulder native and award-winning playwright and film director Jane Shepard. First performed in 2013 to sell-out audiences, “Dude” is back by popular demand with an expanded version of the script and a diverse and intergenerational cast of over 25 actors ranging in age from teens to nineties.

With humor and poignancy this irreverent look at Boulder’s history and folklore includes such themes as the conflicts between Native Americans and early pioneers, the Madams of downtown Boulder, the sneaky way Boulder became a county seat, why Boulder became a health destination, issues of segregation and the roles that minorities have played in Boulder’s history, and tales of Shep the Toll Road Dog, and Coot Lake and the Hippies.

Viva Theater, is a part of the Society for Creative Aging.

For a ‘sneak peek’ Viva presents a few popup scenes from Dude on November 3rd at the Museum of Boulder (northwest corner of Broadway and Pine) from 2-3:30 pm, free of charge.

“Dude It’s Boulder” plays at the Dairy Arts Center, 2590 Walnut in Boulder, November 22, 23, 24, 29, 30. Reserved seat tickets are $17/$20 and can be purchased by calling 303-444-7328 or at www.thedairy.org.
