South Dakota Adventure South Dakota Adventure

An adventure it was! The Milliken Senior Center, under the direction of Kathy Kindsfather, Town of Milliken Senior Coordinator & Special Events,  hosted a bus tour to Deadwood, SD. Patrick Harton was at the helm of The Colorado Coach Transportation Tour Bus. They carried out a professional, comfortable, safe & fun tour. Sights to see were scheduled. Laughs to share were plentiful.

Their overall aim was making sure everyone had plenty of opportunities to enjoy and have a good time. The tour comprised 4 days and 3 nights beginning in Milliken than Deadwood, SD the first destination. Comfort stops were made; as well as meal stops. Oh! plenty of beautiful scenery, flat lands, grazing lands, hills, mountains and streams could be seen and appreciated along the way. Tour member chats abound. Pencil sketches by Nancy were most impressive.

Arriving in Deadwood, SD, the Deadwood Gulch Gaming Resort was ready for us and extended a warm welcome. This was our headquarters for the duration of our stay in Deadwood. Our group shared evening meals and breakfasts. There were chances to try your luck in the Casino.

There were individual times; and group tours to take in area sights. Mount Rushmore was on the agenda. The stop there was an awe-some experience and emotionally moving for many. We lunched there. We were fortunate to meet an original Mount Rushmore Driller, Nick Clifford, who was signing a book he authored.

Crazy Horse Memorial

We visited the Crazy Horse Memorial which presented us an opportunity to see the progress being made with the Memorial. Quite impressive and inspirational!

Along the way, The Black Hills could easily be seen. There was a surprise visit to Prairie Berry Winery. Folks enjoyed wine tasting. More beautiful scenery highlighted our travels back to Deadwood.

More of the story coming in the January 2020 Weld edition.
