The Blessings of Liberty Tour

Four Northern Colorado residents created an ambitious itinerary to visit many of our country’s national historical treasures on an eight-day tour they call The Blessings of Liberty Tour. “Blessings of Liberty” is a phrase taken out of the preamble of the U.S. Constitution which reads, “We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”

The tour started in Philadelphia where Mary Zenzen, Jessica MacMillan, Laurie Marks, and Yvonne Paez first visited Independence Hall, where both the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution were signed. They took a tour of the city, visiting several other famous (and not-so-famous) historical sites where they were able to walk in the footsteps of our nation’s founding fathers and mothers.

After leaving Philadelphia, they visited Valley Forge, Gettysburg, Mount Vernon, Williamsburg, Jamestowne, Yorktown Battlefield, and even got a behind-the-scenes tour of Monticello.

Somewhat of an experiment, they are hoping The Blessings of Liberty Tour catches on with teachers, youth organization leaders, families, and other groups who have never toured the actual grounds where so many of our most pivotal and significant battles for freedom and equality were fought and won.
