Summer Activities and Hearing Protection

Finally, summer is here! It’s time to enjoy all your favorite activities, like outdoor concerts, fireworks displays, and your local state fair. But what is one thing all of these events have in common? They can be loud, and as we know, the louder something is, the worse it is for your hearing. The good news is you can protect your hearing, and enjoy your summer safely.

● Cover or plug your ears: If you forgot to bring earplugs with you, check to see if the venue’s merch tent has some available. If not, covering your ears with anything can help. It won’t be as effective as approved hearing protection, but it’s way better than nothing!

● Step away: If you can distance yourself from where the sound is coming from, do that! The more distance the better.

● Get out: While this is the most extreme option, it is also the best one. Removing yourself from the noisy situation will give your ears the break they need to stay safe.

More importantly, pay attention to how you’re feeling! If you notice any dizziness, a headache, or tinnitus (a ringing in the ears) that may be a sign you’ve already had enough. If you think you may have damaged your ears, don’t ignore it, make an appointment with an audiologist today. The sooner it’s addressed, the better the chances of feeling better sooner.
