Team USA Moves to Second Place in Total Medals!

Wow! Team USA adds two more gold medals in women’s ice skating and women’s ice hockey and a Silver medal in men’s speed skating! Team USA women’s figure skater Alysa Liu won gold in the women’s free skate final on Thursday, ending a 20-year drought for American women in this important category, and ending a 24-year drought to win gold! And congratulations to the USA women’s hockey team for their gold medal! Team USA now moves into second place on the total Winter Olympics medal count! Congratulations Team USA on a great achievement!

Miss Liu, an Oakland California native, landed all her jumps and smiled with beauty and grace throughout her beautifully choreographed program, then joyously gave a demonstrative celebration after she finished her wonderfully executed long program! She only had one minor mistake on a landing, but the last two preferred Japanese skaters had several missteps in their program that cost them the gold medal!

Liu’s technical elements are what made her the winner. “Liu is known for her free spirit and joyful demeanor on the ice, but she also delivered the technical content needed to win her Olympic gold medal,” noted NBC Olympics’ official website. “With the win, she became the first U.S. women’s figure skater to take gold since Sarah Hughes achieved the feat in 2002.”

On another bright note, Team USA’s women’s hockey team defeated the coveted Canadian women’s hockey team 2-1 in overtime! And what a contest it was with the American women winning their gold medal!

And finally, Jordan Stolz won a Silver medal in the Men’s 1500-meter Speed Skating contest. Stolz added another medal to his impressive other two gold medals in speed skating during this year’s Winter Olympics!

Hopefully, in a final showdown on Saturday, the Team USA’s men’s hockey team will win their gold medal as a final tribute to our excellent achievements at this year’s Winter Olympics!

With today’s medal wins, Team USA now is in second place with 27 total medals as shown below! Once again, Congratulations Team USA!
