Foothills Trail Reopens at Horsetooth Reservoir

A popular section of trail on the east side of Horsetooth Reservoir has reopened after being rerouted further upslope from the reservoir.

A section of the Foothills Trail between Rotary Park and Sunrise day use areas had eroded away due to high water in the reservoir. That section of trail had been closed since spring.

With the help of volunteers, Larimer County built roughly 2,000 feet of new trail on the slope above where the old section of trail had existed. The trail is now further upslope from the high-water mark.

Thank you to the Larimer County Horseman’s Association, Team B.O.B., In-Situ, Overland Mountain Bike Club and other volunteers for their work on the trail.

The Foothills Trail connects Horsetooth Reservoir County Park to several natural areas on the west side of Fort Collins, Colorado, making it a popular destination for mountain bikers, trail runners, hikers and other users.
