The Greeley Chorale and Toys for Tots are teaming up for the inaugural “Holiday Cheer for Children” toy drive in conjunction with the Chorale’s holiday concert.
On Saturday, December 14, join the Chorale for an evening of holiday variety as Hometown Holiday takes the stage at 7:30 p.m., at Campus Commons Performance Hall. Toys for Tots will have donation barrels in the lobby of Campus Commons from 6:30 to 9 p.m. “You don’t need a concert ticket to donate a toy, but we certainly hope everyone will do both and join us,” according to Toy Drive Chair Kathryn Warner, a soprano in the Chorale. “And, Santa will put in an appearance too!”
Toys for Tots is a program created by the US Marine Corps Reserve in 1947. The mission of the program, according to the Toys for Tots website, is “to collect new unwrapped toys and distribute those toys to less fortunate children at Christmas.” Toy collection includes a combination of locally donated toys, those purchased by the Toys for Tots Foundation, and those donated by corporations. “It’s just so easy to participate in this program,” says Warner. “Just bring a new unwrapped toy for a boy or a girl to our concert on the 14th, and put it in the donation barrel, and you’re done. Then you can go enjoy an evening of holiday music!”
The concert includes seasonal favorites, as well as holiday choral classics, performed by the entire Chorale, and by soloists, duets and small ensembles from within the Chorale. Says Chorale Artistic Director and Conductor Dr. Galen Darrough, “We always enjoy our holiday concerts because there are always lots of old favorites on the program. This is our Christmas gift to the Northern Colorado community, and I invite everyone to come enjoy this concert…and to bring a toy!”
This concert is sponsored by the Happy Notes donor group. The Greeley Tribune is media underwriter for this season.
