Brief History of 50 Plus Marketplace News
Our newspaper began in 1991 with the first edition starting in Boulder, then eventually expanding to Denver and nearby counties, and finally adding Larimer and Weld counties. In 2011, we reduced the amount of editions to four with Boulder County, combined Denver Metro with the nearby counties, and included Larimer and Weld county editions.
From our inception over 34 years ago, we have heard how much you appreciate our support of local advertisers, activities, events, celebrations and more. With every new year, change comes along. So it has been over 34 years in publishing 50 Plus Marketplace News. We have embraced technology with its ability to enable us to carry all our editions online for readers preferring to read our publication in that manner.
In creating our Media Solutions companies in 2011, we have had the ability to offer four regional newspapers, online and video solutions for our advertisers and readers. We printed over 2.5 million copies of our four regional newspapers since 1971. We created over 450 videos for our advertisers and readers by our column writers and of course our holiday videos since 2011. We displayed over 220 online advertisements since we started that program back in 2011 with the ability to track the online ads. Since 2000, we have changed to five printing companies as many local printers have disbanded operations due to rising costs.
Without our staff, our paper could not have been successful. Since our beginning, we have had three graphics designers, many sales personnel, over 30 column writers and five printers. Additionally, I thank our many writers who have provided our readers with beneficial and insightful news through their specific columns. As many of our readers have indicated, “The column writers at 50 Plus News have provided a wonderful service to our community. Many writers have helped us with their thoughtful and helpful columns!”
Over the years, our distributors have delivered our paper to the many retirement communities, hospitals, medical facilities, restaurants, senior centers, and many other facilities for you to enjoy our newspaper! We have attended over 70 resource fairs, trade shows, and coalition partners along the Front Range over the many years of our operation. Today, there are less than 30 senior resource fairs for vendors and the public to attend. We have been a sponsor at many of these events and appreciated working with these organizers to promote their beneficial events to the senior community! And last, we thank our wonderful advertisers who made it possible for our readers to enjoy our newspaper for 35 years this May in 2026!
Our latest statistics indicate more older readers over 65 are using smartphones and tablets to read online news, emails, and communicate with their relatives and friends. Many are using Zoom or other teleconference services at their volunteer organizations. We will continue to offer our online newspaper editions on our website. This may be our future in all newspapers!
Changing demographics, the ever-shifting print landscape, along with the evolution of more technology (e.g., Artificial Intelligence) calls for a different form of communication. We realized many readers enjoy holding a printed publication while others prefer online news. As mentioned in our January 2025 edition, our younger readers from 50 to 80 years have shifted to reading the news online using their smartphones and tablets. The latest technologies have made it possible for our younger readers to adapt to the changing media conditions.
In our new online newspaper look, you’ll find general news along with sections specific to our Front Range counties. Your favorite columns are placed throughout the pages. Local advertisers, our Business Partner ads and Trading Post sections are located in these pages too. What about Einstein, you may ask. Yes, he’ll still appear! Keep looking for him as you have over these many years. We’re excited about the possibilities with our online Front Rane edition. Most especially, our readers have their own local news, ads and more while being able to read about information from neighboring counties.
I thank our staff for their dedicated and many hours of service in creating an informational and the best resource for our senior community. Hopefully, you have enjoyed reading our newspaper over the past 34 years!
With gratitude,
Publisher Robert A. Trembly II
