Joe Kerby Appointed Jefferson County Manager

In January, the Jefferson County Board of Commissioners announced it hired Joe Kerby as county manager. He will report directly to the Board of County Commissioners and takes over the role on March 20, 2023. “With his experience in local government, we are confident that he will lead Jefferson County from Day One and that makes him the ideal choice to guide Jefferson County into the future,” said Board Chair and Commissioner Andy Kerr.

An experienced local government manager, he has spent more than 35 years working in various roles in city and county governments. For the past two decades, Kerby has served as a city manager, county manager, or deputy county manager in jurisdictions large and small across three different states.

A native Coloradan, Kerby was not only raised in Colorado Springs but also earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs before furthering his education at Webster University, where he earned a master’s degree in business. He also started his municipal career working for the city of Colorado Springs and Colorado Springs Utilities.

Kate Newman will continue to serve as the Acting County Manager until Kerby joins the county.
