The 52nd Season of The Greeley Chorale concludes with the presentation of ‘An Evening with Ludwig & Friends’ on Saturday, April 8, 7:30 p.m. at First Congregational Church, 2101 16th St., Greeley.

The centerpiece of this concert is Beethoven’s monumental Mass in C, one of the great choral works of the early 19th century. “The Chorale has been working hard to conquer this intricate and difficult piece,” explains Artistic Director Dr. Galen Darrough. “and perhaps is the most challenging work the Chorale has sung in recent memory.”

In addition to the 92-voices on stage, Darrough has assembled a 30-piece orchestra, the largest every hired by the Chorale. “We are most grateful to Dr. Howard Skinner and his wife, Beverly, for their gracious and generous underwriting of the orchestra for this concert,” Darrough said. “Without their assistance, we simply could not have put together this sized group of instrumentalists.”

Also on the program are traditional spirituals and folks songs, along with Broadway show tunes. Special guest is Alice Crawford, Director of Children’s Ministry and Children’s Music at First Presbyterian Church, Fort Collins. Crawford accompanies the Chorale on First Congregational’s immense pipe organ and present organ pieces by Bach and Mozart.

This concert is sponsored by the Good Samaritan Greeley Communities. The 52nd Season is also funded in part by a grant from Colorado Creative Industries and the National Endowment for the Arts. Tickets are available through the UCCC at 356-5000, or online at ucstars.com.

Although April 8 closes the “official” concert season, there’s more! As done eight times before, the Chorale sets off on an international concert tour in late May, with Berlin, Leipzig, and Prague on the itinerary. As a gift to the community, a pre-tour concert is performed Tuesday, May 23, 7:30 p.m. at First Congregational Church. This concert is free, a reception follows in Chadwick Hall.
